Variable Volume Ratio (VVR®) compressor technology energizes Daikin's Navigator Chiller

Daikin’s Variable Volume Ratio (VVR®) compressor technology was released to industry acclaim in 2017. From Frost & Sullivan to AHR Innovation Awards, the industry tuned in quickly to the advancements VVR offers to both the environment and the building owner’s bottom line. So, what’s all the hype about?

Able to sense the amount of lift needed in any given moment, VVR adjusts the compression ratio automatically. As a result, the chiller’s compressor never overworks for the conditions, equaling energy and money savings. In equipment without VVR technology, overcompression is likely happening 95% of the time. With VVR at play, Daikin delivers optimal efficiency at any operating condition, at every hour of the day.

“The VVR technology allows us to dial in the correct compression ratio and only use the energy we need based on the outdoor temperature,” Bill Dietrich, General Manager of chiller products said. “Coupled with variable speed drives, we can uniquely control head pressure and speed to optimize our energy.”

 

 

 

Available on both the Navigator® water-cooled screw chiller and the Pathfinder® air-cooled screw chiller, VVR is bringing more flexibility and higher efficiency to better chiller products for better efficiency and building performance.
